Part of a solution for cyberQuarter: Abertay University’s new £18M cybersecurity centre

Working with Prime Joinery Solutions, Minster has specified and supplied a complete dry lining solution to support the construction of a new £18m cybersecurity research and development hub at Abertay University.

The Abertay University cybersecurity R&D hub, built with the help of MinsterNew Hi-Tech Hub in Dundee

The cyberQuarter has been created to attract new and existing cybersecurity firms to Dundee, bringing together students, academics, and organisations to help solve global cybersecurity challenges.

Housed in the former Abertay Student Centre, the development of the new cyberQuarter has seen the entire building renovated, with both interior and exterior walls demolished and rebuilt, to create office, events and collaboration/experimentation space, alongside secure cloud-computing infrastructure to enable online teaching, R&D, and knowledge-exchange activities.

Providing a comprehensive dry lining solution

Overcoming an array of challenges, including extended product lead times and shortages, our expert team collaborated closely with sub-contractor Prime Joinery Solutions to deliver a complete dry lining solution for the new cyber hub that achieved all structural, aesthetic, and cost objectives.

Glasroc X Sheathing Board was specified and supplied to strengthen and weatherproof exterior walls alongside Rockwool Flexi Slab; while British Gypsum’s Gypframe, Gyproc SoundBloc, and Gyproc Fireline plasterboards were specified to create the partition walls needed to create new rooms. Knauf Heradesign Baffles ceiling tiles were also supplied, to create a stylish open ceiling with acoustic benefits alongside AMF metal ceiling tiles.

The finished building is a modern and inspiring space that gives businesses access to new talent, as well as giving real-world experience to students from the University.
